Not what I expected - this is not a linear novel, but truly a chronicle of life in a small Oregon town by the sea. Slices of life, memories, emotions, inner lives of both residents and visitors to Klatsand, Oregon. Prosaic and mundane at time, mystical and stream-of-consciousness at others. I loved it, though - the writing is sublime. And one of the shortest stories was so chilling, I couldn't stop there for my night's reading, but had to throw myself into the next story right away so certain images would not follow me into sleep.
Highly recommended.
